BudE-21 was made during the Bog Jam 2025 game jam by Team Dandy Lion Café! It’s a simple game of Black Jack that tells a sweet story of an elderly gardener and her robot companion through the art on the cards. The comic-like storytelling through card art was inspired by Hanafuda, a traditional Japanese card game.
We play as Bud-E21, the companion bot who helps Flora continue her favorite hobby of gardening. I wanted the design for Bud-E21 to be very simple, cute, and instantly recognizable as a robot.
In keeping with our gardening and self care themes, I decided Bud-E21 needed a way to rest too. I gave him a retractable flower solar panel so that he can take breaks to recharge.
